Some LDRs Have To Deal With Having A Big Time Difference From Their Partner. Here’s Advice On How To Deal With Living In Different Time Zones In The World!

Here is how to deal with different time zones in the world!

Unfortunately, there are some long distance relationships that are, well, really long. For example, my partner lives over 3,500 miles away! I live in New York, and he lives in England, so in total, we have a 5 hour time difference (he is 5 hours ahead). The worst part? I go to bed late, and he goes to bed early. So, we end up going many hours without speaking to each other! I’m also not a morning person, so by the time I wake up, he’s already had breakfast AND lunch! So, I know firsthand that living in different time zones in the world can be a pain!

However, it could always be worse… There are some long distance couples who have 12+ hour time differences! Time zones are one of the hardest things to deal with when it comes to long distance relationships.

So, if you and your partner have a crazy time difference, and you don’t know how to handle it, then you’ve come to the right place…

Here is some advice on how to deal with living in different time zones.

OVERVIEW:

1. Find the best way to communicate

We live in a time where everything can be reached through our cell phones. Most phones are just like tiny computers. You can access the internet, contact whoever you want, etc. So, if your partner has a phone, then there’s really no excuse for them not finding any time to talk to you. Find out the best way for you both to communicate. Whether it’s through Skype, WhatsApp, a regular phone call, or FaceTime. Once you figure out what’s easiest for the two of you, start chatting!

2. Send texts throughout the day

No matter how big or small the time difference between you and your partner is, there’s absolutely no excuse as to why they can’t send you a few texts a day! Texts take a few seconds to send, and even if it’s just a quick hello, it’s better than nothing. If you and your partner are texting, then you’ll start to feel better because you’re talking to your partner, and you’re more engaged in what they’re up to. So, even if it’s just a little kissy-face emoji, send each other texts throughout the day to let each other know that you’re thinking of one another.

3. Discuss your schedules

Like I mentioned a few times, time zones are a pain in the butt! So, figure out what time zone you’re living in, and of course, your partner’s time zone. If your partner is living 5 hours ahead, then try to work out a time that’s good for both of you to talk. Perhaps it’s during your lunch break, or when you get out of work. Obviously it wouldn’t be 8pm your time, because that would be 1am their time! So, discuss your schedules and then figure out the best time to talk. Plus, then you’ll both be excited for that time of day – It’ll give you something to look forward to.

4. Be patient

If you’re in a long distance relationship, then this is a very important piece of advice. You’re going to have to come to terms with the fact that your partner won’t be able to chat 24/7. A lot of couples get mad at each other for the lack of communication, but if it’s because of something like time zones, then it may be out of your control. Your partner may be at work, or in school, so they can’t just drop everything to speak. So, learn to be more patient and understanding.

5. Talk about how you’re feeling

This is probably the most important piece of advice you can take from this blog! If you feel like the time difference is taking a toll on your relationship, then you need to mention it to your partner. By talking about how you truly feel, you can work together to figure out a solution. Honesty is so important when it comes to any type of relationship. Tell your partner how you are feeling, what concerns you have, and work it out as a couple!

That was some advice on how to deal with living in different time zones in the world!

It’s not easy, but if you and your partner put in an equal amount of effort, then your relationship will succeed! Love is so much greater than distance, so as long as you both are dedicated to each other, you can work through the crazy time differences!
